Building the Foundations for Sustainable Growth
Overview
Sector:
Disaster Recovery & Restoration
Location:
Nationwide, UK
Client Overview

Disaster Care is one of the UK’s leading disaster recovery and restoration specialists, providing national coverage through a network of regional branches. Founded over 20 years ago, the business remains independently owned and is now led by second-generation owner and CEO, Chris Netherton.
Working with major insurers, loss adjusters, and homeowners, Disaster Care restores properties and livelihoods following fire, flood, and other emergencies.
After a period of rapid growth and organisational change, Chris identified the need for a clear and connected strategy that would align the company’s purpose, culture, and communications.

The Challenge
Disaster Care had a trusted reputation for operational excellence and service quality, but its marketing, ESG, and research activity had evolved organically across the network. The business needed a unified direction to connect its leadership vision with the everyday delivery of its teams, ensuring that every action consistently reinforced a shared purpose and standard of excellence.
Our Approach
Mackman Group was appointed to deliver an intensive three-month strategic engagement, focused on establishing the foundations for long-term, sustainable growth. Working closely with Chris and the wider C-suite, our senior consultants undertook a detailed strategic review of the organisation’s structure, leadership model, and stakeholder relationships. This provided a clear understanding of how the business operated, where alignment was needed, and where opportunities for greater clarity and impact existed.
At the centre of this work was the creation of The Golden Thread, a strategic brand framework designed to bring together Disaster Care’s vision, purpose, mission, values, guiding principles, and messaging into one connected system. This framework was developed to ensure that every part of the organisation, from board-level decision making to frontline delivery, is aligned and working towards a shared direction .
Building on this foundation, we developed high-level marketing, ESG, and research strategies, all anchored to the Golden Thread. This ensured that future activity would not be delivered in isolation, but as part of a coordinated and evidence-led approach, supporting both commercial growth and long-term impact.
The Golden Thread connected every part of Disaster Care’s business — from leadership decisions to frontline delivery.
Alongside the strategic work, we also provided targeted short-term tactical support to address immediate priorities, including communications, award submissions, and stakeholder engagement. This balance of strategic thinking and practical delivery ensured momentum was maintained throughout the engagement.
The Golden Thread now acts as the unifying reference point for Disaster Care, shaping how the organisation communicates, makes decisions, and measures its impact as it continues to grow.
Project Outcome
Disaster Care partnered with The Mackman Group to bring clarity and alignment across brand, ESG, and research through a connected strategic brand framework. This created a clear, evidence-led foundation for future growth and more consistent delivery across the network. The strength of this approach led to an ongoing partnership to support implementation and long term delivery.

The Story Continues
With the strategic brand framework now in place, Mackman’s specialist divisions are leading the next phase of delivery in a coordinated and structured way.
Mackman Branding and Marketing is responsible for rolling out the brand system, strengthening communications, and supporting ongoing digital development to ensure consistency and impact across all touchpoints.
At the same time, Mackman Research is delivering a programme of insight, including client, employee, and network perception studies, providing the evidence needed to inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making. Alongside this, the ESG and impact strategy is being embedded across the organisation, establishing a more robust, evidence-led approach to sustainability and social value measurement.
Together, these initiatives are driving meaningful cultural and commercial transformation, connecting purpose with performance and reinforcing Disaster Care’s position as a leader in sustainable disaster recovery.
